Syntax is the grammatical arrangement of words in a sentence. It studies how to combine words in order to create acceptable sentences.
For example:
I like not that! /SUBJ + V.P + ADV NOT + D.O/ =Wrong.
Syntactically speaking, the person made a non acceptable arrangement of words in this sentence due to "translation problems". We can see the verb written correctly after the subject, then in the incorrect place, an adverb of negation which should go before the verb "to like" accompanied with the auxiliary verb "do" that is "don't"
I don't like that! Syntactically correct /SUBJ+ ADV NOT + AUX + V.P + D.O
